If memory serves, we had our first Aperol Spritz shortly before our honeymoon to Italy in 2019. It quickly became our go-to drink for warm summer days and we had at least one every day during our trip. They're refreshing and the lower alcohol by volume makes them a solid choice to enjoy while getting some sun by the pool.
In Southern California it was quite warm this past weekend and it was just the excuse we needed to venture into the backyard, get some sun, and watch some football. Of course, having a drink on hand would round out the day and make for a perfect afternoon.
After the "long winter" we were in the mood for the perfect summer day drink, an Aperol Spritz. Its an easy drink to make but does require having Aperol on-hand (obviously) and although not required, an orange to garnish. The key is to find the right balance between the Prosecco and Aperol.
I use the following recipe for an Aperol Spritz:
2 oz of Aperol
4 oz cold Prosseco
1 oz of seltzer water
Fill a wine glass with ice. Pour in the Aperol, Prosecco, and seltzer water (in that order). Use a spoon to gently mix the drink. Garnish with half an orange wheel.
After we enjoyed some Aperol Spritzes, I thought I would try another spritz with grapefruit and Dolin Vermouth Blanc. It turned out fantastic! We'll have to give them another try soon and I'll be sure to share.
